LATE SUMMER SADNESS
For this painting webinar we're asking you to re-enact the posture of the central figure in Berthe Morisot’s painting Summer Day and use a photo of that posture as the subject of your portrait painting. Why? Because we're grasping at these resigned last days of Summer as they tumultuously roll into what looks like an apocalyptic Fall, and Berthe's extraordinary painting perfectly captures that relinquished mood.
Figure could be you or anyone else. It doesn’t matter gender or age. It could be a closeup of the face or as full as the figure in the painting. You don’t have to match anything she’s wearing. The importance is to capture the mood of the posture, the gaze, the expression. The photo can be taken in any context with any light. The background is not important.
There is a lot we want to talk about in regards of Berthe Morisot life and work. Start with our inspiration video. There is a lot more we’ll cover during the webinar, as we paint together.
• Painting premise: portrait.
