From the painting series: PULL OVER
Another black body victim of police brutality this week. We lost count.
In the last 13 months, we realized there is plenty of room to become better allies.
Let’s reflect on our privilege, the privilege of knowing that if we drive our car to a car wash, we know we’re going to come back home alive. But just because we think we’ll be fine, it doesn’t mean that everyone else will be okay also. Some drivers don’t come back home.
For our collection this week, we’re going to take a picture of the back of our car and use it as an image source for our painting. The back of a car is the viewpoint a cop has when they pull it over.
The Black Body, by Morgan Parker.
Give it a new verb.
Stop writing poetry.
Go outside. Make blood.
The body is a person.
The body is a person.
The body is a person.
The body is a person.
The body is a person.
"These paintings were done in response to the murder of Daunte Wright after police pulled him over for a traffic violation in Minnesota on his way to the car wash," Lois Keller.
