Painting Series: BLUE SWANS
Cygne Crépusculaire (Twilight Swan), 1949, by Joseph Cornell, 1903-1972. This piece took our breath away. We decided to use it as inspiration for this painting collection.
The box was created by Cornell in honor of Tamara Toumanova after seeing her perform in an outdoor production of Swan Lake. Cornell had a fascination with caged birds. In them, he saw the limitations of his movement, his form of imprisonment in the material world, and the longings to escape. Enclosed birds allowed him to express his autobiographical frustrations.
We used blue and white images of swans as inspiration for this series.
