Going back in time, all the way before the pandemic changed everything, we were bewitched looking at the fantastic watercolors by contemporary artist Brian Jeongyong Lee @bjylee5 depicting crystals. We loved how he classically translated the mineral daintiness in the manner of 19c. botanists.
We think crystals are dreamy subjects to practice and expand the ranges of color and value variations we can squeeze out of our painting palette without the pressure of conforming to a recognizable form. We also believe that applying the contemplative observation needed to make the visual translation of a crystal onto our paintings will make us appreciate more the true labyrinthine beautify of the infinite mineral transmutations.
- Painting premise: Still Life.
- Props: arrange a still life with any crystals in your home. Photos are welcome.
