Joshua Tree Painting Retreat

A professionally guided art experience over four days in magical Joshua Tree with award-winning painter Julio Panisello.

The four-day painting program will provide many opportunities to paint in inspiring locations around Joshua tree.

Group limited to 10 Pay-Per-Paint easels.
We have set up different packages to make it more convenient. We sell the painting sessions separately as a block, and we also offer a couple of options at the place we'll be staying: Mojave Sands Motel. You can bring an accompanied person to the retreat for a fee (painting not included, just welcome meal, breakfast, and snacks during painting sessions.
Dates
  • Thursday November 16th to Sunday November 19th.

Location
  • We booked the Mojave Sands Motel as our base camp for this retreat. The whimsical property consists of 5 rooms only: 2 suites and 3 classic rooms.

Cost (painting+lodging*)
  • Five painting sessions: $650
  • Total cost of room from Thursday to Sunday (If you stay at Mojave Sands):
$882.75 for the suite (king bed, full kitchen)
$588.50 for the classic room (queen bed, fridge/coffee maker).

Accompanying Person
  • +1 'non-painter' coming with you: $50 (to cover group meals).
*Painting and lodging costs are separate.
What's included in the cost:
  • Welcome evening meal (+drinks) on the day of arrival.
  • Early morning Coffee Social and light continental-style breakfast.
  • The whole motel property booked for us.
  • 5 separate painting sessions in different iconic locations.
  • Beer, wine, refreshments, and light snacks offered during the 5 painting sessions. All the materials needed for painting (easel, canvas, oil paint, brushes, supplies).
  • Set up and clean up on each session.
  • Instruction and individualized feedback for each outdoor painting session.
  • A relaxed, safe, nonjudgmental, and requirement-free environment. Every level welcome.
  • Tons of free time to explore and discover Joshua Tree.
Participating Painters are responsible for the cost of:
  • Lunch and dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado, come together in Joshua Tree National Park. A fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness in southern California.
Julio Panisello, the recipient of the Grand Prize and the Audience Choice Award in the 2016 Los Angeles Plein Air Festival, earned his BFA (cum laude) in Painting and a postgraduate degree in Pedagogy from the University of Barcelona, Catalonia. He has exhibited widely in Los Angeles and Spain including a solo exhibition with ShoeboxLA, THE LODGE, the Los Angeles Arboretum, the main branch of the New York Public Library, and Gallery 825. He is the creator of The Havisham Hour, a multi-media, visual arts and literature project based on Charles Dickens' novel Great Expectations, Julio with a P, a collection of recorded conversations with local artists, and the founder of Roofless Painters which hosts educational painting sessions in iconic locations.
