- The retreat will run from Sunday 18th to Saturday 24th September 2022.
Location & Travel
- Our resident atelier will be based at the Sarum Studio in Salisbury, an independent art academy nestled within Salisbury Cathedral Close, in a graceful Queen Anne building dating back to the early 1700s. We will host our evening Studio Time sessions there.
- We have programmed five daily painting locations in and around Salisbury.
- Salisbury is 88 miles South West of London on a direct train line, is a 1hr 15mins drive from Heathrow Airport, and a 1hr 45mins drive from Gatwick Airport. The city is very walkable so you won’t require your own vehicle to get around.
- We recommend booking accommodation in Salisbury city centre, that way you'll have a short walking commute to the studio.
- Please reach out when you book and we can help coordinate accommodation bookings with other painters and travel transfers so costs can be shared etc.
Painting
- We will be hosting a welcome tea-party on the studio lawn the Sunday from 3-5pm.
- Our group is limited to 12 painters.
- Our daily painting practice will run from Monday through Friday, with breathtaking historical, architectural and botanical sites in and around Salisbury as subjects of our plein air paintings.
- Evening studio sessions will be held at the Sarum Studio to provide further tuition and an opportunity to complete paintings from the plein air sessions.
- 'White glove' service - all required art supplies will be included, as well as the daily set-up and clean-down of easels and palettes. A fully supplied easel station will be ready for each painter at each plein air location and in the studio.
- In between painting sessions, time will be provided for independent sketching, photography, and journaling.
- We will hand out Roofless Painters goody bags during the retreat's welcome tea party to keep you inspired during our time together.
Exhibiting
- A formal Art Exhibition featuring curated paintings from the week will be held at The Vanner Gallery in Salisbury, on Saturday 24th September 6-9pm, giving all painters an opportunity to show and sell their work. This includes the framing and hanging of your work.
- All paintings created will be featured in our online gallery and select posts on our social sites.
Price
- The cost of the retreat is $1135 USD or £950 GBP, depending on which currency you're paying with - click here to book your spot.
- You can also secure your spot with a deposit of $300 USD or £250 GBP - click here to pay the deposit. You'll be invoiced the remainder of the retreat cost before the retreaat starts.
- Please note that deposits are non-refundable. In the rare case we find ourselves obliged to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, though, refunds will be issued.

Roofless Painters is a global community of contemporary observational painters from every background and level of training looking at modern life with fresh and unorthodox eyes. We let our interpreting brushstrokes lead our experience. Rather than follow single methods or theories, we're guided by our joy and self-development, a passion for contemplation, and the thrill of connecting with places and things we love through painting, doing it together for opportunity, motivation, and support. Our sessions are paced and guided in a way that allows you to build your painting from beginning to end regardless of your skill level. Whether you are painting for the first time or you have been doing it for years, we break down the steps and provide instructions on how to incorporate the materials to your process.
