Once upon a time, humans looked up and discovered things. And then we became accessories to our smartphones and we started looking down.
We remember moments pre-smartphone era when we found ourselves looking up in rooms and discovering beautiful light reflections on ceilings, interesting shadows, moving shapes, like water, or sirens. And that’s not even going into chandelier territory.
We don’t do that anymore, but now that we are indoors so much, not by choice, and we have so much more time to tire our eyeballs and brains with indiscriminate scrolling of news and nonsense, we’re inviting you to look in these paintings and find out what the painters saw when they looked up.
