We would assume that pretty much everyone understands that mixing art and live animals is not a good idea in this day and age. We would also imagine that it's common knowledge that dove releases are pretty bad, regardless of where.
And yet, in today's Los Angeles, a powerhouse gallery hosting the opening for a solo show of an artist who's reached stardom status, featured an organized a dove release that made some people cringe and a few others walk away with disgust.
Among those was artist Sheida Soleimani, who is also a federally recognized bird rehabilitator. Sheida knows quite well the fate of those domesticated birds that are released into the urban and dystopian wilderness: death by starvation, illness, or predatory attack.
Here is the article that explains it all and names names. We reached out to Sheida, and she kindly connected with us. She let us use images on her social media platform of the birds she's rescued and nursed in her "bird clinic."
They will be the subjects of our paintings.
Please read the article and follow Sheida's Instagram here. Here is her website. Please tag her name if you share images of your painting @sheidajanam. We are so happy to have connected with her and are supportive of her plea.
