LAST SUNSET is a painting series inspired by the SoCal Sunset we witnessed on Friday, December 14. After a cloudy day, the afternoon pre-winter sun dunked under the leftover clouds and before hiding past the horizon, creating a momentary spectacle of color and texture so compelling that it made people looking down at screens lift their heads in complete awe. That’s how powerful it was.
After a year marked by being perennially reminded of how everything will be taken away from us (paraphrasing artist #AdrianPiper) we thought of closing 2018 with the premise of a beautiful sunset at a year’s end, a reminder to pause for a quick moment and simply look up in quiet contemplation. No one can take that away from us.
